The catalogue accompanying the exhibition developed under the artistic direction of Okwui Enwezor presents works by three generations of African artists and photographers – including Seydou Keïta, Malick Sidibé, J. D. ’Okhai Ojeikere, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Santu Mofokeng – alongside works by classic German photographers such as August Sander as well as Bernd and Hilla Becher. Focus areas are portrait, identity, body, sexuality, and performance. The book presents 230 works by 31 artists from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mali, Benin, Cameroon and Senegal among other countries.
