Nafasi Art Space is a centre for visual contemporary art in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Located in a former industrial complex, the old warehouse holds six studios complemented by five other spaces on the surrounding plot. Fifteen member artists of Nafasi Art Space can work in the studios every day and present their work in the gallery of the centre.
Nafasi Art Space aims at being the leading contemporary art center in Tanzania that provides a platform for artists through development, production and entrepreneurship in the visual arts by offering training, exchange and exhibition of contemporary arts, locally, regionally and beyond.
Nafasi Art Space is not only for the artists but also open to the public. Monthly events such as exhibitions and a variety of workshops are aimed at getting the public acquainted with the contemporary art of the artists. They attract art lovers of all ages and professions as well as regions.
In the workshops the artists are introduced to different creative media. Nafasi’s programme is complemented by music sessions, dance and theatre performances as well as screenings of quality films from all over the world.
