Gallery MOMO announces As If You Care, Blessing Ngobeni’s third solo exhibition with Gallery MOMO, and the first in the new Cape Town space.

“I have found that most people act as if they care about the greater good, particularly those in power, but in reality they don’t. They are pushing a personal agenda by manipulating the ideals of socialism in order to convince those who are desperate to support and celebrate them. The vulnerable have indirectly offered themselves as slaves of capitalism and as a result unwittingly continue to benefit the elite.

The business of self-enrichment does not accommodate mercy.

We are the witnesses and enablers of our own Democratic Slave Masters, who treat the ‘land of nobody’ like a dump-site. If the land truly belonged to the people who tended, nurtured and lived on it, then it shouldn’t be so complicated to share it amongst the masses.

Those in power are driven by greed and self-promotion and contribute little value, like our underperforming head of state, whilst the general public are unable to better or enable themselves nor challenge the system. The masses have to take it upon themselves to abolish the existing, destructive system. There is a tension that exists between the current state of the nation and imminent, unavoidable disaster. ”

Blessing Ngobeni, winner of the Reinhold Cassirer art award in 2012  was named one of the top 200 young South Africans to look out for by the Mail and Guardian.

The Exhibiton will open at Gallery MOMO Cape Town, 6pm – 9pm, 2nd July and will run until the 15th August 2015.
