L’autre continent (The other continent) brings together nine women artists born or living in sub-Saharan Africa. Photography, painting, video, installation, sculpture: their work retraces history of their country, tells intimate stories or explores overlap between collective and personal history.
Originating in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe, ruby onyinyechi amanze, Malala Andrialavidrazana, Mimi Cherono Ng’ok, Virginia Chihota, Lebohang Kganye, Zanele Muholi and Fatou Kandé Senghor are members of a new generation, born between 1970 and the early 1990s, and are at different degrees of recognition, ranging from internationally recognised to never seen in France. Their works will be shown with those of two pioneering figures, Seni Awa Camara (born c. 1945 in Bignona, Senegal) and Sue Williamson (born in 1941 in England, living in South Africa since 1948).
