Contemporary And (C&) loves to be read, discussed, challenged

Thanks to you, C& gives voice to outstanding and ingenious writers from Africa and its diaspora. Way more than 60 reviews, essays, interviews, and reportages have been produced and published in English, French and German, featuring contemporary practices in Africa and abroad. Additionally, our listings of exhibitions, events, grants, and publications have grown into a valuable platform visited and utilised by several thousand users from approx. 159 countries since our launch. Accessed globally, from Johannesburg to Abidjan to Rio de Janeiro, C& continually seeks to offer critical and extensive content. This month’s upcoming interviews, features and projects prove once again to be in sync with C&’s ongoing commitment.

Art critic and curator Suzana Sousa gives us an exclusive insight into the vibrant Luandan art scene. Sousa also had a tête-à-tête with photographer Edson Chagas, published on C& a week before his sensational win. 

In the series Inside the Library, C& is dedicated to showcasing libraries and book collections holding essential but also some of the rarer and often forgotten publications, which are a vital contribution to community and discourse. Featured this time: The library of the pioneering and experimental art space/lab L’appartement 22, in Rabat, Morocco. As its founder and newly appointed director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art (Qatar), Abdellah Karroum unravels some core pieces of L’appartement 22‘s living archive. 

Finally, we are very much looking forward to presenting our new C& Art Space in early Ocotober: curator and art critic Christine Eyene and sound and video artist Em’kal Eyongakpa exclusively collaborated for our new online show. Watch out and listen up!
