Ojeikere passed away in Lagos on the 2nd of February 2014 after a brief illness.
Born in 1930 in Ovbiomu-Emai (Nigeria), J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere, the internationally celebrated Nigerian photographer, was famous for his work on the unique hairstyles of Nigeria. His body of work acts as a historical archive, highlighting the varied aesthetical landscapes that define his country. He participated in various international projects and exhibitions such as in 2013 in the group show Voyage Retour and in the central exhibition of the 55th Venice Biennale.
