Letter to Lagat is an artist’s book by Sam Hopkins and Simon Rittmeier that examines and questions ownership, possession and control of African art in Europe.

Letter to Lagat meditates on the power of objects in Postcolonial collections of the Global North. Are objects agents of their own movement? What are the implications of the increasing verisimilitude of digital reproductions?

A performance piece that addresses the subjectiveness and potential arbitrariness of collection practice. How can objects from an African country be classified and exhibited in Bayreuth, Germany? Can new classification systems be able to offer new perspectives on the object?

With music by DJ Dark Hive (aka Skaface the Tilapia).
