SPARCK – Space for Pan-African Research, Creation and Knowledge – is an interdisciplinary platform for contemporary art of the African continent and the diaspora. SPARCK was founded in 2008 by two artist-activists, Kadiatou Diallo and Dominique Malaquais.
SPARCK has no centre or location, as its projects are developed in partnership with a growing network of institutions, artists and cultural operators throughout Africa, Asia, America and Europe using a ‘Call and Response’ pattern; preference is given to extraordinary, self-sustaining initiatives. Within these co-operative arrangements, SPARCK provides residence fellowships and carries out workshops, performances, exhibitions, film presentations, lectures and interventions in the public space. The artistic spectrum extends from the visual and performing arts to open-source software production, experimental video art, photography and architecture to Hip-Hop and acrobatics. SPARCK projects not only break through the boundaries between the disciplines but also promote a dialogue and a democratic exchange that transcends all age boundaries, social classes and genders, as well as spatial, professional and ethnic differences.
