The Goodman Gallery is a gallery for contemporary art in South Africa based in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Since it was founded by Linda Goodman in 1966, the gallery specialises in presenting artists from South Africa and the greater African continent despite the resistance and repressions from the political system of Apartheid. The gallery’s programme is complemented by exhibitions of international artists whose work relates to the African context. The gallery is connected to important international museums and is a regular participant at major art fairs such as Art Basel, Art Basel Miami or the Armory Show in New York. In 2008 Liza Essers acquired the Goodman Gallery and took on several new artists. The gallery not only offers a platform to artists who are already established but also creates a space for the voices of a new, critical generation of artists, therefore evolving into one of the leading contemporary art institutions in Africa.
