Hassan Khan was born in 1975 in London. He lives and works in Cairo. Everyday life in the 20 million megacity is an inspiration for him as an artist, musician and writer. In his multimedia installations and performances, image, sound and text complement each other. His focus in his work is the conceptual and communicative role of art. He perceives it as a language which brings to light cultural and social structures in its very own way – particularly when it breaks with traditional conventions. He has participated in a number of group exhibitions, including Manifesta 8, Yokohama Triennial as well as the biennials in Sydney and Istanbul.
In 2017, he won the Silver Lion at the 57th Venice Biennale for his work Composition for a Public Park (2013/2017).
