TURF is a site-specific curatorial project in New York City co-founded in 2013 by Mebrak Tareke and Thomas Amdemariam.
The project has dealt with the issue of creating more frank dialogues on Africana today. TURF presented ‘Africana: Recycling, Myth-Making, Alterity’ during cutlog NY 2013, and ‘Own Cult: Icons of Wonderland’ during cutlog NY 2014, both featuring artists Nathalie Mba Bikoro and Elena Cecchinato. Most recently, their show ‘Ayti: Recycling Dystopian Dreamscapes’ (2014) presented visual narratives that challenge the stereotypical image of Haiti. In addition, TURF has partnered with the art dealers Ed Cross Fine Art and Nader Haitian Art Gallery.
