Second International Conference “Archives and Exhibitions” organized by la Biennale di Venezia – ASAC in the context of the 55th International Art Exhibition.
The two days of debates are divided into 4 sessions that include institutional interventions and roundtable discussions.
On Friday November 15th the President of la Biennale di Venezia, Paolo Baratta will open the works and present the Proceedings of the First International Conference “Archives and Exhibitions” 2012 published by la Biennale di Venezia (€ 10).
To follow the roundtable moderated by Angela Vettese, art critic and councilor of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Venice: Massimiliano Gioni will describe The use of Archives in the 55th International Art Exhibition with two artists invited to the Biennale Arte 2013: Gianfranco Baruchello and Matt Mullican.
The second session – Organize the memory– taking place in the afternoon and moderated by Massimiliano Gioni, will see Angela Vettese in conversation with Eleni Michaelidi, archivist at DESTE Foundation in Athens and Reem Akl, project officer at the Arab Image Foundation in Beirut. The great potential of the archives in Italy is the title of the third session, moderated by Erilde Terenzoni, archive superintendent for Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige, will engage scholars and representatives of the major Italian institutions: Diana Toccafondi, archive superintendent for Tuscany, Rachele Ferrario, professor of phenomenology of contemporary arts and archives cataloguing and management at Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, Debora Rossi, head of ASAC – Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts in Venice, and Paola Pettenella, head of the historical archives at Mart in Rovereto. Rossana Rummo, general director for Libraries, Cultural Institutes and Copyright of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism will draw the conclusions of the first day of Conference.
On Saturday November 16th, Massimiliano Gioni will moderate the meeting dedicated to the role of the archive document in contemporary art, with talks by Paolo Baratta, Okwui Enwezor, director of Haus der Kunst in Munich, Michelle Elligott, director of the MoMA Archives in New York, Luca Massimo Barbero, director of the Institute of Art History of the Fondazione Cini in Venice, Daniela Lancioni, senior curator at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, and Assunta Porciani, head of the Archive and Library of Fondazione la Quadriennale in Rome.
