R.A.R.O , Madrid , Spain
Deadline: 30 April 2017
R.A.R.O is a program of Artistic Residencies characterized by creating a different model to those established within the art world. Rarely Organized Artistic Residences (in spanish Residencias Artísticas Raramente Organizadas)(R.A.R.O) allow residents to travel through different artist spaces and work with them during the time of the residence, to carry out any artistic project they present.
The primary objectives of the project are its itinerant nature and multidisciplinarity.
The itinerant character of R.A.R.O allows residents to share experiences with local artists in diverse spaces and also allows a wide perspective and knowledge of the city.
Multidisciplinary is, nowadays, a good tool for the experimentation and learning of new artistic techniques. Multidisciplinarity breaks with tradition and seeks new forms of production by crossing artistic languages, betting on artistic practices that generate new spaces for dialogue and coexistence.
This residency program was born in 2014 in the city of Buenos Aires, where it has had great reception with several artists of various nationalities participating in the experience: Argentina, Colombia, Zimbabwe, England and Australia.
With the objective of transferring this initiative to other countries, R.A.R.O opens a new headquarters in the city of Madrid.
R.A.R.O Madrid will have seven artist studios willing to welcome those who want to be part of this experience. These spaces provide the environment, materials and tools to carry out all kinds of artistic projects with different techniques. The spaces that make up this network in Madrid are: Basurama, El Forn, Daniel Vega, Madrid Street Art Project, La Lavanderia, Serigrafía TBC , Taller Omnívoros, ink DELICIUS and La Nevera de Lavapiés.
RARO Itinerant Residences (both in Buenos Aires and Madrid) work as follows: every artist interested in carry out a residence with RARO must complete and send a form that reflects the idea they want to accomplish, including artist studies (at least two studies), the artistic techniques to be developed and the residence time (a minimum of 30 days), in addition to a portfolio with ten recent photos of their work.
This project is aimed at emerging and established artists from all disciplines who are interested in itinerant residences and who want to share a workshop with other artists in order to produce works.
R.A.R.O Madrid summons an open call to develop a residence in any month of next year.
