ATELIER - Platform for new art and choreography, Essen, Germany
Deadline: 16 October 2022
Through an open call for applications, each ATELIER ends up producing an unusual constellation of contemporary artworks, performances and installations. For the first time, the ATELIER will have a thematic framing: under the title Archives in Our Homes, the 67th iteration of the ATELIER seeks to showcase artistic interrogations of the stories personal archives tell, and of the things they leave out.
In the various spaces that make up PACT, these projects coalesce, forming paths that permit multiple interpretations, offering different ways of interpreting and representing themes such as heritage, home, and belonging. Archives in Our Homes was proposed by Princela Biyaa, Marny Garcia Mommertz and Fayo Said, the founders of the Association for Black Art_ists e.V., which looks at the various forms of archiving artistic work in Africa and in the African diaspora from a Black perspective.
Invited are applications for artistic contributions from all disciplines. Emerging and established choreographers, musicians, visual artists and academics who investigate the margins of memory, work with embodied archives, with family histories and collections are all welcome to apply. This goes equally for projects in the developmental stage as well as finished works.
