Angola will participate at the 57th Venice Biennale with an exhibition by António Ole, one of Angola’s most widely known artists. His project’s theme is Magnetic Memory/Historical Resonance and was commissioned by Angola’s Ministry of Culture.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
José António Oliveira or António Ole, as he likes to be known, is a self-taught artist who learned his craft in museums and the studios of his fellow artists. He began sketching early and by high school had already achieved national recognition. By age 16, he was exhibiting in the Luanda Salon of Modern Art. Today, Ole is Angola’s best known artist. He has been featured in such blockbuster exhibitions as The Short Century, Africa Remix, and Encompassing the Globe. Most recently, the National Museum of African Art included him in the first of the new series, Artists in Dialogue.
