Schauspiel Dortmund, Dortmund, Germany
16 May 2024 - 18 May 2024
Dortmund Goes Black invites to the third edition of the Festival from May 16 to 18 at Schauspiel Dortmund. Over three days, the theater will become a center for art from a Black, African and Afro-diasporic perspective. Join to experience new universes created by Black artists who call NRW and Dortmund in particular their home.
At the center of the artworks is the question of the visibility of Black bodies. As an audience, you will have the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the artists’ world of thought through plays, dance theater, films, performances, concerts and talks. With the performance Haba na Haba by Duisburg artist Paul Damiano, we remember to approach and understand life step by step and that small successes lead to big life goals and achievements! The guest performance Isenyuso from Johannesburg follows the traces of a man who experiences how his familiar world disintegrates and he fights against his own dissolution. The experimental short film Skin Politics by Ore Arts, which refers to the book Plantation Memories, will be a special part of the film program.
Whether you would like to visit just a part or the entire festival, the Dortmund Goes Black Festival looks forward to welcoming you. Let’s celebrate the diversity and creativity of black art together and transcend apparent boundaries.
Tickets for the events from May 16 to 18 will soon be on sale! Register at: schauspiel@theaterdo.de for the opening of the festival on Friday, May 17, at 5 p.m. in the Institute of the Schauspiel Dortmund.
Dortmund Goes Black was launched three years ago in cooperation with the four cultural institutions Dortmunder Kunstverein, Internationales Frauenfilmfest Dortmund I Köln, Dietrich-Keuning-Haus and Schauspiel Dortmund and is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in cooperation with the NRW Kultursekretariat Wuppertal.
