Le Cap, South Africa
15 Feb 2017 - 19 Feb 2017
Now in its fifth year, ART WEEK CAPE TOWN will be taking place from Wednesday 15th February – Sunday 19th February 2017!
An initiative of the Contemporary Art Development Trust (CADT), ART WEEK is aimed at strengthening and increasing the visibility of the city’s visual art sector. What began in 2012 as a small project driven by the simple idea of highlighting local contemporary art grew into the only annual festival to shine a spotlight on both the Johannesburg and Cape Town art scenes, pulling together galleries, public institutions, curators and artists for one focused week of art happenings.
The ART WEEK CAPE TOWN programme includes exhibitions, special projects and talks and will take place in the Cape Town City Bowl and surrounds. Open to the public, the programme aims to make different manifestations of contemporary art accessible to as many people as possible. In 2017, ART WEEK CAPE TOWN will coincide with the Cape Town Art Fair, which attracts an international audience of collectors and curators.
Contemporary art from Africa is gaining increasing attention internationally, and ART WEEK CAPE TOWN aims to harness that interest and establish Cape Town, with its incredible energy and diversity, as a hub for art from the region and the continent.
ART WEEK CAPE TOWN aims to create a more robust community of art producers and consumers both locally and internationally. As ART WEEK CAPE TOWN creates greater public awareness of contemporary art, it aims to build a sustainable art market while culturally enriching the city.
