Art Basel returns to Miami for it’s 15th edition.The fair takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from December 1 – 4, 2016 with a preview taking place on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
269 Leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show work from the masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well as pieces by a new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works of the highest quality are on display in the main exhibition hall. Ambitious large‐scale artworks, film and performance become part of the landscape at nearby beaches, Collins Park and SoundScape Park.

Designed for galleries to present one, two or three artists showing works created within the last three years, the Nova sector features strong juxtapositions and never-before-seen pieces fresh from the artist’s studio.
This sector Positions allows curators, critics, and collectors to discover ambitious new talents from across the globe, by providing a platform for a single artist to present one major project.
Edition presents eading publishers of editioned works, prints, and multiples exhibit the results of their collaboration with renowned artists, providing visitors the opportunity to see significant, and rare publications.
In a separately delineated space within their booths, galleries present a curated exhibition by an artist of their choice. The diverse curatorial concepts for Kabinett include thematic group exhibitions, art-historical showcases and solo shows for rising stars.
Survey presents precise art historical projects. These may include solo presentations by an individual artist, juxtapositions and thematic exhibits from artists representing a range of cultures, generations and artistic approaches.
Organized in association with David Gryn, Director of Daata Editions and London’s Artprojx, the Film sector presents a dynamic program of films. Outdoor screenings take place at SoundScape Park, where works are shown on the 7,000-square-foot projection wall of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center; and inside the Miami Beach Convention Center. In addition, New York-based film curator Marian Masone selects a feature-length film for a special screening at the Colony Theatre.

Public: Installations by 20 international artists will transform Collins Park
2016 marks the fourth year that Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund, New York, will curate the Public sector at Art Basel in Miami Beach. The theme « Ground Control » will frame this year’s selection, which includes over 20 site-specific works by established and emerging artists spanning ten countries. Produced in collaboration with The Bass for the past six years, the sector will transform Miami Beach’s Collins Park into an outdoor exhibition space with works by Magdalena Abakanowicz, David Adamo, Jean-Marie Appriou, Eric Baudart, Huma Bhabha, Yoan Capote, Claudia Comte, Matías Duville, Camille Henrot, Glenn Kaino, Alicja Kwade, Sol LeWitt, Wagner Malta Tavares, Tony Matelli, William J. O’Brien, Anthony Pearson, Norbert Prangenberg, Ugo Rondinone, Tony Tasset and Erwin Wurm.
The Public sector of Art Basel in Miami Beach will open on Wednesday, November 30 at 8pm with a special evening performance program featuring Davide Balula, Lady Bunny, Rob Pruitt and Naama Tsabar. The Public Opening Night is free of charge and open to the public.
The exhibition in Collins Park will last through Sunday, December 4, 2016, although a selection of artworks will remain installed until March 15, 2017 as part of « The Bass Projects. »

Conversations and Salon: Art Basel’s 2016 program in Miami Beach
Held daily from Thursday, December 1 through Sunday, December 4, Art Basel in Miami Beach’s Conversations and Salon series will bring together celebrated artists, galleries, art historians, writers, curators, museum directors and collectors from across the globe. Participants will include Alexandre Arrechea, Wafaa Bilal, Francesco Clemente, Mark Dion, Lady Bunny, Julio Le Parc, Glenn Ligon, Tony Matelli, Jill Magid, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Damián Ortega, Bernardo Ortiz, Molly Palmer, Howardena Pindell, HE Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, Howard Rachofsky and Sun Xun among others.
The morning Conversations series—offering dynamic dialogues between prominent members of the international art world — will commence with the Premier Artist Talk featuring artist Julio Le Parc with curator Estrellita B. Brodsky on the occasion of Le Parc’s major exhibition at the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM).
Additional highlights of the Conversations program include « Debating Disruption: Has Technology Really Changed the Artworld? »—which will bring together Sebastian Cwilich, President and COO, Artsy, New York; Laurent Gaveau, Head of the Lab, Google Cultural Institute, Paris; Christiane Paul, Adjunct Curator of Digital Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and artist Simon Denny, Berlin—as well as the first segment in Hans Ulrich Obrist’s new series « Artists’ influencers, » which pairs artists with the individuals who have greatly impacted the development of their artistic practice. This talk will feature the artist Glenn Ligon, New York, in conversation with poet and writer Claudia Rankine, Frederick Iseman Professor of Poetry at Yale University, New Haven.
The Conversations program takes place each morning between 10am and 11am, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session , is open to the public and free of charge.

Flourishing art centers across North and South America will also be explored through talks dedicated to specific cities or regions, including « LA and the Proximity Factor, » featuring prominent members of Los Angeles’ art scene, and « Latin American Collaborations » with Catherine Petitgas, Collector and Patron, Chair of the Board of Gasworks/Triangle Network and Member of the Tate Latin American Acquisitions Committee, London; Alexandre Arrechea, Artist, Havana; and Ricardo Porrero, Editor-in-Chief, Revista Código and Founder, Gallery Weekend México, Mexico City.
The Salon program will continue throughout the run of the show with additional highlights including « Why is Gender Still an Issue?, » « Public Museums & Private Partnerships, » « Biennial Commissions: Impact and Complications » and two talks that focus on the art market—a discussion on the « Post-Election Art Market » and « The State of the Emerging Art Market. »
All talks are held in the auditorium of Hall C in the Miami Beach Convention Center.
