Odili Donald Odita was born in 1966 in Enugu, Nigeria. He lives and works in Philadelphia and New York. In 1990 he graduated with a Master of Fine Art from Bennington College in Vermont. Points of departure of his work are historic as well as socio-political contexts. In his work he explores the complexity of colours which are a reflection of his travels. Thus he creates unique colours – a metaphor for the diversity and variety inherent in people and objects. Odita has received numerous awards and fellowships, has exhibited at international institutions, galleries and museums, and took part in the 52nd Venice Biennial in 2007 with his exhibition Give me a shelter. His exhibition Third Degree of Separation has been on display at the Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town since March 2015.
