Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften (Leibniz-Saal), Berlin, Germany
23 Feb 2015 - 24 Feb 2015
The Goethe-Institut invites to the conference “Dialogue and the Experience of the Other” on 23 and 24 February 2015. Experts from the disciplines of philosophy and the cultural and social sciences will investigate the possibility of rapprochement on an equal-partner basis.
What are the basic assumptions on which dialogue is founded? Can foreign cultural work, can the continual exchange of ideas and values uphold a common basis for the possibility of understanding even at a point where classical policy has fallen speechless? This conference in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities unites theory and practice and offers new impulses from academic reflection for cultural work abroad. From within this context, the role of public intellectuals and cultural-policy actors as facilitators and catalysers of intercultural dialogue can be reflected anew.
In addition to German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speakers will include: Wang Hui (Tsinghua University, Beijing), Rahel Jaeggi (Humboldt-Universität Berlin), Achille Mbembe (University of the Witwatersrand), Paul Mendes-Flohr (University of Chicago), Gabriel Motzkin (Van Leer Jerusalem Institute), Sari Nusseibeh (Al-Quds University Jerusalem) and Ursula Wolf (University of Mannheim).
Entrance is free but advanced registration is requested until 20 February at www.goethe.de/dialog
