Framer Framed, Amsterdam, Netherlands
10 Oct 2017
On Tuesday 10 October, Mondriaan Fonds and Framer Framed, present a lecture by Yvette Mutumba. Mutumba is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the art magazine Contemporary And (C&) and one of the curators of next year’s Berlin Biennale (June– September 2018).
In her talk Yvette Mutumba will speak about her practice as an art historian, curator and editor; and her dedication to strengthen the visibility of, and discourse around, contemporary art from African Perspectives. By presenting a selection of her most recent projects she will discuss her approach, which consists of methodologies that seek to mediate and propagate marginalised, complex (art) histories and debates in an accessible way, creating parallel narratives in a cultural discourse.
As part of this independent research Yvette Mutumba will visit the Netherlands as guest in the Mondriaan Fund visitors program between 9 and 13 October 2017. With a view to promoting art from the Netherlands abroad, the Mondriaan Fund organizes special visitors programs for foreign visual art professionals. Visitors programs are organized for curators and other art professionals to offer greater insight into contemporary visual arts from the Netherlands and to strengthen international ties and promote the exchange of ideas.
