various venues, Munich, Germany
12 Sep 2019 - 13 Oct 2019
The thriving network of Munich galleries, off spaces and museums again invites worldwide institutions, artists, cooperative projects and an international professional audience to Munich. As a forum for contemporary art with its yearly recurring event, VARIOUS OTHERS stands for the continuous dialogue between Munich’s art scene and protagonists from the global art world as well as an intergenerational exchange between public institution and private initiative.
“That galleries, institutions and project spaces work closely together is not only shrewd and a fitting reflection of the art of our time but also – to date – unique in Germany.” Dr. Yilmaz Dziewior, Director, Museum Ludwig, Cologne
VARIOUS OTHERS continues to grow. Including all new arrivals, this year a total of 22 Munich art venues are participating in the second edition: important museums, globally active galleries and independent art spaces with exciting positions. As special guests, 18 international partners have been invited by participating galleries and off spaces to realize exhibitions in collaboration with their hosts.
During the opening days from Thursday, September 12 to Monday, September 16, VARIOUS OTHERS is expecting guests from all over the world: galleries from Hamburg, London, Rome, New York or Shanghai are opening – together with their Munich hosts – on Friday, September 13 as well as project spaces with guests from Cologne, Cluj, Amsterdam, São Paulo, South Korea or Portugal. Also integrated into the OPENING WEEKEND program are exhibition openings in Lenbachhaus München, Sammlung Goetz and Haus der Kunst. The Museum Villa Stuck is taking part with a screening and artist’s talk within the framework of the current exhibition. As part of its anniversary year celebrations, the Museum Brandhorst is participating with a panel discussion on hybrid institutional models and their mutations in light of an increasingly globally operating art world. Espace Louis Vuitton is to offer a film screening in conjunction with its current exhibition and the Pinakothek der Moderne is planning public conversations. The auction house Karl & Faber and the department store Ludwig Beck are also offering special programs. Flanked by the VARIOUS OTHERS Opening Party and city tours organized especially for a specialized audience, a lively dialogue and engaging exchange will be promoted between collectors, artists, curators and members of the press, between leading experts and an interested public.
VARIOUS OTHERS is an event organized by the non-profit association VFAMK e.V. We thank the supporting members of the association who make this project possible as well as the active members for their energy and unflagging dedication.
