Ten new »flatmates«, who have responded our open call for »Vacancies! In Post-Otherness-Flatshare« have been selected for the exhibition and will now move into the flat share/Galerie Wedding with their artistic ideas, concepts, works, objects, discursive strategies and performative approaches.

The exhibition space – the »vacant« room – is turned into a space of possibilities, in order to create instances of »Post-Otherness« through imagination, inspiration, contradictions and disorder. In reference to the discourse surrounding the term »Post-Other«, as coined by anthropologist Regina Römhild, various practices or unacknowledged politics of urban everyday life will be brought to light in different ways.

In the context of the Vacancies! exhibition we explicitly understand “Post-Otherness” as the abundance and diversity of ways of life, of experiences and strategies, which in turn bear an (also inner) variety of artistic and social positions. The community in the exhibition space (as public) and within the flat share (as private) thus comes to stand for the negotiation of collective realities and Utopias, individual needs and demands, but also for the endurance of differences, disharmonies and contradictions. The exhibition as a whole creates a very particular social microcosm.
