The Museum Fünf Kontinente is looking for a part-time (50%) research assistant (m/f/d) to start as soon as possible. The position is limited as a project position until April 30, 2025. The Museum Fünf Kontinente is a museum of world cultures. Within Munich’s diverse museum landscape, it offers unique access to the cultural wealth of people all over the world through the collections preserved and continuously expanded in the museum.

Your Tasks:

  • Scientific indexing, documentation and computerized inventory of objects in the Sub-Saharan Africa department (Cameroon / cultural region Fang-Beti with colonial appropriation context)
  • Archive research and file study, particularly with regard to provenance
  • Publication of project-relevant content (print and digital)
  • Establishing contact, correspondence and conducting interviews, including documentation, with communities of origin in the Yaoundé/Cameroon region
  • Professional support for guests from Cameroon in Germany

Your Requirements:

  • M.A. in History or Ethnology, Heritage Studies, Archaeology, Cultural or Art Studies, each with a focus on Africa
  • very good knowledge of historical and ethnographic provenance research,
  • very good knowledge of the public debate on the restitution of cultural assets to Cameroon
  • Adequate written and spoken foreign language skills
  • a high degree of social competence, organizational skills, great commitment and ability to work independently

The employment relationship is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, recruitment and classification will be at a maximum of 13 EntgO TV-L.

The position is generally part-time, provided that full-time performance of the duties is ensured through job sharing.
