Open Call: Hyperbodies Laboratory

Hi! Are you interested in participating in an experimental theater piece?

“Hyperbodies” is a post-human fiction about the visions and memories of a group of queers from various backgrounds and positionalities. They find themselves in a futuristic space, a casino-cum-data center. It’s a potential utopia away from racist, patriarchal, and colonial legacies; environmental destruction, hyper surveillance and the military control of late capitalism.

“Hyperbodies” builds an alternative narrative structure based on the premise that the digital has become an extension of our memories and experiences. Dream-like thoughts are exteriorised as hallucinations through a series of monologues and scenes.

“Hyperbodies” touches on experiences of being hyperracialized and hypersexualized, as well as hypervisibility, hypervigilance, hyperfetishization, hypersensitivity, etc. This project is a queer and trans co-creation and co-production. The majority of the group will be comprised of racialized queers whose experiences are situated at the intersection of various vectors of oppression. The white-bodied people involved in this project are intentionally in the minority.

The laboratory aims to further develop a durational piece combining live performance, projected immersive virtual environments and a multi-channel sound installation.
