miart 2015

From 9 to 12 April the pavilions of fieramilanocity will welcome 154 international galleries representing the best of modern and contemporary art and limited-edition design from all over the world. The number of galleries participating this year at the fair in Milan has grown once again, with a further increase in international exhibitors over the last editions.

This year there are 72 foreign galleries –  46% of the total – with an outstanding number of galleries from the United States (25) and the United Kingdom (23) – bearing witness to the foreign market’s stronger perception of miart and the formula developed by its Artistic Director. There are also many Italian and foreign galleries participating for the first time at a fair in Italy or returning after a long absence. Many galleries have now chosen miart as their fair for representation in our country.

Once again, there will be four sections at this 20th edition: Established, with 105 exhibitors—subdivided into the sections Master, for galleries showing work by historically established artists; Contemporary, for galleries specializing in contemporary work; and First Step, a new sub-section for galleries already recognized on a national and international level, participating at miart for the first or second time, and the galleries that move from the Emergent to the Established section; Emergent, including 19 avant-garde galleries focusing on young artists, with 16 international galleries and six making their first appearance in an art fair; THENnow, an invitational section presenting 18 galleries, each showing a comparative installation of works by an established artist and one from a more recent generation; finally, Object offers a selection of 12 galleries active in the promotion of contemporary design created in limited editions and approached as artwork.

A new cycle of miartalks – curated by Maria Cristina Didero, independent curator, Milan; Director of Fondazione Bisazza, Vicenza; Paola Nicolin, curator and art historian, Università Bocconi, Milan; Alessandro Rabottini, independent curator and curator-at-large, MADRE, Naples – will accompany the three days of the fair open to the public with a platform of contributions, including conferences, conversations and interviews, involving 35 international personalities  including artists, designers, museum directors, fashion designers, critics, curators, collectors and journalists, who in the year of the Expo will discuss art and its institutions, scenarios of the present and the future.

The range of Prizes and Acquisition Funds connected with miart continues to expand. Alongside the familiar contribution of the Giampiero Cantoni Acquisition Fund  of Fondazione Fiera Milano – for works of modern and contemporary art that will become part of the collection of Fondazione Fiera Milano – and the Premio Emergent supported by LCA – for the best emerging gallery – as well as the Premio Rotary Club Milano Brera  – for contemporary art and young artists – this year there will also be the Premio Herno , in collaboration with Herno SpA, assigned to the stand with the best exhibition project.

Miart 2015 is also presenting the second edition of The Spring Awakening, the program of events, openings and special hours involving public institutions, foundations and private galleries, starting on 8 April and for the entire period of the fair.

Triennale and Triennale Design Museum present the major show Arts & Foods, and Cucine & ultracorpi.

HangarBicocca presents the retrospective of Juan Muñoz and the solo show by Celine Condorelli.

GROWING ROOTS – 15 years of Premio Furla is on view at Palazzo Reale; The rules of the game at Fondazione Achille Castiglioni; Medardo Rosso at Galleria d’Arte Moderna – Villa Reale, and David Bailey at PAC – Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea.
