Bamako, Mali
Deadline: 05 November 2019
On the occasion of the 12th Bamako Photography Encounters in Mali, Invisible Borders Trans-African Project, as part of its presence in the Festival, will be organising a Masterclass facilitated by Emeka Okereke from 21 – 29 November 2019.
This Masterclass follows in the tradition of the Invisible Borders educational programs aimed at bringing together photographers, writers and filmmakers from Africa to work together in an interdisciplinary framework. The masterclass will draw from the archive but also positions articulated through the Invisible Borders Trans-African Road Trip project to deliberate on the potency of photography, literature and film in the articulation of African narratives and realities. How can we better mobilise these mediums – and their power to intersect and reference one another – in the re-imagination of imagery and the poetry of living.
Furthermore, we shall make needful references to history as a way of understanding the present. Thus, this masterclass is firmly situated within ongoing attempts to make something out of that ever-volatile negotiation between the past and the present.
Eligible participants:
Photographers, writers and filmmakers from Africa/Diaspora or anyone who has lived and done substantial work (within the mentioned disciplines) related to the African continent/its diaspora.
