Weyra invites you to make a submission for an upcoming anthology Here and There, a collection of stories focusing on recent events in Ethiopia. The anthology aims to harness  the power of storytelling to shine light in the darkest recesses, offering fresh perspectives and unearthing buried truths. It provides an opportunity for us to document our experiences of the last 4 years, and offer context for deeper understanding and empathy.

Weyra wants to read about your experiences and reflections on covid, the war and ongoing conflicts in Ethiopia. It aims to provide a platform for sharing personal narratives amid chaos and uncertainty. Share your observations, moments that enraged and radicalized you, the things that have brought you hope or joy. Write about power, isolation, alienation, about making meaning, about the loss of language. This is an exercise in speaking up for each other and making our voices heard.

Works of short fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction from Ethiopian writers and writers of Ethiopian origin are welcomed. Short fiction – 1,000 to 8,000 words, Creative nonfiction – 1,000 to 10,000 words and Poetry – 3 to 5 pages. Works in both Amharic and English are accepted. Works in other Ethiopian languages are also accepted if you submit the translation alongside it.

Financial compensation for your will be provided. If you have an idea you think fits this outline, send your submissions by April 23nd, 2024. For questions email info.weyra@gmail.com
