From 9 to 13 December 2013, the Prince Claus Fund presents ‘Culture in Action: Prince Claus Awards Week’ a festival of events highlighting the work of the 2013 Prince Claus Laureates. The programme includes an artist talk, a film screening, lectures and panel discussions throughout Amsterdam. The events are organised in collaboration with the Dutch cultural centre De Balie, Stedelijk Museum and the University of Amsterdam.
Monday 9 December, University of Amsterdam
19:00 Culture in Action with Lu Guang: Chinese photojournalist and 2013 Laureate Lu Guang shares his experience documenting China’s changing landscape, followed by a discussion with Ardi Bouwers. Robert Pledge will introduce Lu’s work.

Wednesday 11 December 2013: Prince Claus Awards Ceremony
On 11 December, Ahmed Fouad Negm and his work will be honoured in the Awards Ceremony at the Royal Palace. The ten other recipients of the Prince Claus Award will attend the ceremony in Amsterdam for the first time in the history of the Awards. However, their awards will be officially presented to them in their home countries at a later date. 16:00-17:30 Culture in Action with Christopher Cozier and Naiza Khan Visual artists and cultural innovators Naiza Khan (Pakistan) and Christopher Cozier (Trinidad & Tobago) engage in a discussion about the state of contemporary visual art with Aukje Dekker. Naema Tahir and Selene Wendt lead the discussion, which is moderated by Davide Quadrio. Register
20:00-22:00 Culture in Action honouring Ahmed Fouad Negm. A programme honouring the work of 2013 Principal Prince Claus Laureate Ahmed Fouad Negm with contributions from Marlene Dumas, Sabri Saad El Hamus and Karima El Fillali. South African photo-activist and 2013 Laureate Zanele Muholi, Pakistani visual artist and 2013 Laureate Naiza Khan will engage in a debate on cultural activism. Moderated by Malu Halasa. Register
20:30-22:00 Culture in Action with Alejandro Zambra Acclaimed Chilean writer and 2013 Laureate Alejandro Zambra is interviewed by Wim Brands, following a word of welcome by Maartje Wortel. Register
20:30-22:00 Culture in Action with Idrissou Mora-Kpaï Beninese filmmaker Idrissou Mora-Kpaï screens Indochina, Traces of a Mother, which explores the complicated legacy of colonialism and identity. The film is followed by a discussion with Bregtje van der Haak. Register
Friday 13 December, Stedelijk Museum
16:00 Culture in Action with Oscar Muñoz: Colombian visual artist and 2013 Laureate Oscar Muñoz gives an Artist Talk about his visual explorations of the relations between body and memory. Moderated by José Roca.
