Saraba Manuscript Project

Saraba Magazine is announcing a call for submissions for the Saraba Manuscript Project. Saraba Magazine, Nigeria’s preeminent literary magazine based out of Lagos, has been championing the work of emerging writers from Nigeria and the rest of Africa since 2009.

Now, in addition to its quarterly online literary magazine and electronic chapbook series, Saraba will further the goal of promoting outstanding emerging Nigerian literature and non-fiction by accepting completed manuscripts of fiction and non-fiction. The Saraba Manuscript Project will confer a N100,000 prize to one fiction and one non-fiction writer, selected from a shortlist of ten writers (five per genre), as determined by a panel of judges, made up of Nigeria’s leading contemporary writers. Each shortlisted manuscript will be published as an e-book and audio book, and Saraba will collaborate with a Nigerian publishing company to publish the winning manuscripts in print. Saraba will take on a vigorous promotional process for all shortlisted manuscripts, through social media outlets as well as through readings and events at Nigerian universities and cultural centers.

This project is among the first of its kind in contemporary African publishing, managed with the hopes of promoting the burgeoning talent of emerging writers from Nigeria.

The judges for the prize include Rotimi Babatunde, Noo Saro-Wiwa, and Azafi Omoluabi-Ogosi. More judges will be confirmed shortly.

Manuscripts will be accepted for consideration from August 3 through December 15, 2015.
