ART CONNECT ARTIST TALK: Dawit L. Petros in conversation with Osei Bonsu

Dawit L. Petros discusses his practice with independent curator and writer Osei Bonsu. Work by Petros is showing as part of The View From Here at Tiwani Contemporary until 27 June 2015.

Dawit L. Petros (b. 1972, Eritrea) is a New York-based artist exploring the relationship between African histories and European modernism. His installations and photography works are based around extensive research and travels. Recent exhibitions include The Studio Museum in Harlem, USA (2014), The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, USA (2014), The National Museum of African Art, Washington DC, USA (2013), and the Lianzhou International Photo Festival, China (2011). He was awarded an Independent Study Fellowship at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2012.

Osei Bonsu is a British-Ghanaian independent curator and writer based in London. His writing has been included in a number of museum and exhibition catalogues including the 56th Venice Biennial Exhibition All the World’s Futures (curated by Okwui Enwezor) and Milan EXPO Arts and Food (curated by Germano Celant). He has developed a number of projects focussed on international art, including Pangaea II: New Art from Africa and Latin America (Saatchi Gallery, 2015) and 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair (2013-14). He advises private and not-for-profit arts organisations and contributes to publications such as New African, NKA: Journal of Contemporary African Art, Mousse Magazine and Art Review, among others.
