Cape Town International Convention Center, Cape Town, South Africa
Deadline: 29 July 2016
2017 will mark the 5th edition of the Cape Town Art Fair (February 17–19), which in its short history has fast risen to be the premier event of its kind in South Africa, and indeed on the continent. Bringing together the pre-eminent galleries from around the world specializing in contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, the Cape Town Art Fair offers local and international visitors, collectors and specialists alike the opportunity to discover the leading trends from the African continent and the world.
In addition to the Main Section the Cape Town Art Fair 2017 will be expanding with the introduction of a new section, Unframed which is a dedicated platform featuring large-scale sculpture, installation and new media.
The fair will also feature the second installment of its curated special project Tomorrows/Today, which is exclusively reserved for emerging galleries or galleries with an experimental approach who are applying with solo representations by young artists from Africa and the diaspora.
Placing the contemporary in a historical context, the Cape Town Art Fair presents Past/Modern, a section dedicated to curated gallery representations of works of art produced before the year 2000 by a maximum of two artists.
In Editions we bring together galleries and workshops who specialize in works on paper and prints, multiples and editions. Then finally, continuing the fair’s commitment to building the creative economy in the region, we are proud to once again present Cultural Platforms showcasing presentations from museums, cultural institutions, studio collectives and NGO’s.
Application forms can be found online at www.capetownartfair.co.za.
The deadline for submissions is July 29, 2016. Successful applicants will be notified by August 2016.
