Founded in 1996 by the designer Aissa Dione, Galerie Atiss Dakar has gained reputation for spotting and incubating artistic talent from West Africa mostly, often presenting them for the first time to an international audience on artistic and cultural platforms like Dak’Art Biennial of Contemporary Art, Art Paris Art Fair, Art Dubai, or the Cairo Biennial.
In 2020 Galerie Atiss Dakar is moving from its emblematic site of Mermoz to settle on the West Corniche of the lively Medina district. The new space, which spans four levels, now allows the gallery to occasionally host artists in residence, and to set up a more varied program of screenings, discussions and meetings in parallel with its exhibitions.
