Guy Tillim (South Africa, 1962) lives and works in Cape Town. He began as a young reporter in the 1980s, when he became aware of photography as a way to fight the race gap created by the apartheid system in his country.

In the 1980s he joined Afrapix, a collective of South African photographers with whom he worked closely until 1990. Having learnt his trade as a photojournalist nearly two decades ago, Tillim’s oeuvre has proven to be far more than that of orthodox reportage. While continuing to focus on the social and natural challenges on the African continent, his working style has evolved into a much more subtle, quiet and enigmatic approach.
