Applications to the 2nd Henrike Grohs Art Award are now open. It will be awarded in conjunction with Dak’Art – Biennial of Contemporary African Art in May 2020. The prize is awarded biennially to an artist or arts collective living and working on the African continent, and practicing in the field of visual arts.

The selection committee for the 2020 Henrike Grohs Art Award is made up of Nkule Mabaso (Curator at Michaelis Galleries, Cape Town, South Africa and the 2019 South African Pavilion at the Venice Biennale) and Moses Serubiri (Independent curator, Uganda). The jury, who will be choosing the winner and runners up, will be announced along with the shortlist for the award.

The Henrike Grohs Art Award is a roving biennial art prize conceived by the Goethe-Institut and the Grohs family in memory of the former Head of Goethe-Institut in Abidjan, Henrike Grohs.

The award aims at supporting emerging artists in their careers, responding to the challenges of practicing on the African continent. Artistic quality is the most important criteria for the award.

All applications must be submitted using the application form . By submitting the application the applicant accepts the conditions of the competition.

Submissions will close on 15 November 2019.
