THEMED PROJECTS 2022

Art and Citizenship : Looking at the world with a critical eye.
Short films and video essays rooted in reality.

Some contemporary artistic practices take a critical look at events, decisions or actions that deeply transform our way of life. As a citizen/observer, the artist uses his or her tools to formulate ideas, doubts, needs and desires, and translate them into works of art. Through projects based on real facts (political, cultural, social, economic or environmental), we wish to highlight approaches that present another narrative of reality, and that, by taking some critical distance, open up room for reflection on people’s relations with each other and with their environment.

Art and Science : Exploring scientific issues through art.
Diving into the heart of a research laboratory.

The purpose of the call is to offer residencies to professional artists from all fields (visual arts, dance, theatre, music, writing, comic books, film, etc.), whose project would take inspiration from the cutting-edge research conducted by the partner laboratories active within Campus Biotech.

The goal of these residencies is to promote exchanges and intersections between scientific practices and artistic practices. They are intended to encourage the emergence of new ways of formulating, perceiving and using both scientific and artistic research. Through connections between two fields, they will foster a better understanding of their respective fields of research.

The reflections and exchanges will lead to the creation of new works, or the adaptation of pre-existing works that could be integrated with, or adapted to, the experiments conducted in the laboratories, and/or complement them. The results of each residency will be presented at a public event within Campus Biotech or in a partner institution. They could be the subject of a publication in specialised scientific journals.

Art and Stories : Giving form to archives.
Research linked to the archives of international organisations.

The archives of international organisations are part of the collective memory. These archives constitute a formal record made up of reports, official letters and documentary images that contain no less than millions of human stories. Through the eyes of artists, the idea is to transform this material and give it a new dimension.

Applications should propose projects in which the archives of international organisations are the main resources used. Examples of accessible archives are those of the UNHCR, UN, ILO, ICRC, IFRC, WHO and WIPO. Applicants can also propose other international organisations or NGOs based in Geneva.
