PAN!C PANEL DISCUSSION – “WHAT IS INDEPENDENT?”

The PAN!C project is a collaboration with VANSA and Picha Centre de Art at Lubumbashi.

PAN!C is a platform that provides a space for sharing of knowledge and ideas, as well as discussions that engage independent spaces in the African continent. PAN!C has been expanded this year, into quarterly programs that will take place both in Johannesburg and Lubumbashi.

The first quarter’s point of departure is “What is Independent?”. This questions factors that affect the dynamism and sustainability of independently run spaces on the continent. These conversations will be facilitated by Robyn Cook who is focusing her PhD research on South African contemporary independent spaces.

Participants:  Rangoato Hlasane (Keleketla!, Jhb),  Patrick Mudekereza (Picha Centre de Art, Lubumbashi), Donna Kukama (Centre for Historical Re-enactments, Jhb) and a video/skype conversation with Colectivo Pes Descalços (Luanda)

Date:  25 April 2014
Time:  06:00 for 6:30pm
Venue:  VANSA, King Kong Building, 6 Verwey Street, New Doornfontein

Special feature:  The PAN!C programme in Lubumbashi is running parallel to the programme in Johannesburg with exchange of ideas and materials produced in either site. As part of this programme, Picha presents an independent jukebox playlist developed by artist Tresor Malaya and Patrick Mudekereza (Picha)
