The African Cultural Foundation Wien is excited to announce the first NIA Empowerment Space Artist Residency, taking place from 1 November – 31 December 2025 in Vienna. This program supports six BIPoC artists by providing free studio space, visibility, and the opportunity to share their artistic practice with the community.
What is offered
- Shared studio/atelier space in Vienna for 2 months
- Support in developing one public workshop per artist (open to all)
- Visibility through our communication channels and networks
- A final showcase event presenting the works created during the residency
- Professional documentation (photo/video) of your creative process
What is asked
- Artists should use the space regularly during the residency period
- Each artist offers one participatory workshop (topic is open, e.g. painting, photography, performance, writing, dance, sound, interdisciplinary art)
- Willingness to participate in the final showcase and interviews
Eligibility
- Emerging or mid-career BIPoC artists based in Austria or with ties to Vienna
- Artists from any discipline (visual arts, performance, multimedia, etc.)
- Open to individuals or small collectives (up to 2 people per slot)
Timeline
- Application deadline: 1.October 2025
- Selection results: 31.October 2025
- Residency period: 1 November – 31 December 2025
- Final event: late December 2025

Please fill the Online Form, which will ask you for the following Information:
- Short bio (max. 200 words)
- Headshot (a picture of you that has a good resolution or show you at work)
- Artistic portfolio (PDF or link)
- Motivation statement (max. 500 words): Why do you want to join this residency? How would you use the space?
- Workshop idea (short description (150–200 words) tentative date, duration, number of participants)
