In preparation for an upcoming exhibition featuring women artists addressing questions of gender, body and other female narratives, women artists are invited to apply for a residency in Cameroon leading to a commission and participation to the European showcase of the exhibition “La Parole aux Femmes” (Women Speak Out), premiered at Galerie le Manège, Dakar, in 2011 with Safaa Erruas (Marocco), Justine Gaga (Cameroon), Ayana V. Jackson (U.S.A.), Fatou Kandé Senghor (Senegal), Ato Malinda (Kenya), Pascale Obolo (Cameroon/France), Kara E. Walker (U.S.A.) and Billie Zangewa (Malawi/South Africa).
This call is open to African women visual artists aged 30 maximum, residing in Africa and available from 13 to 27 January 2014. Five artists will be selected for this project including three through this call for artists. Travel, accommodation, per diem, commission and production costs will be covered. This residency aims at developing a dialogue between artists and curator in a peaceful, creative and inspiring environment.
