Sandra Mujinga will enter into conversation with Eric Otieno Sumba to discuss her work “I Build My Skin with Rocks,” currently on display in the Historical Hall of Hamburger Bahnhof. The evening will be moderated by exhibition curator Daniel Milnes.

Sandra Mujinga is a Norwegian artist and musician who lives and works in Berlin and Oslo. Her work plays with economies of visibility and opacity, negotiating questions of identity, self-representation, and surveillance. She often draws on the survival strategies developed by animals, including bodily mutations such as camouflage and shifting patterns of behavior, in order to envision alternative worlds at the intersection of technology, the human, and the animal. In 2021 she was awarded the Preis der Nationalgalerie.

Eric Otieno Sumba is a writer and editor with a background in social theory, political economy and postcolonial studies. He is a regular contributor to magazines including Contemporary And, Africa is a country, Camera Austria, Texte zur Kunst, frieze, and GRIOT. He is a doctoral researcher at the Department of Development and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Kassel, and an editor in publication practices at HKW Berlin.
