15 Oct 2014 - 19 Oct 2014
Frieze Masters Talks 2014 will feature conversations between renowned contemporary artists Phyllida Barlow, William Kentridge and Edmund de Waal in conversation with the curators of historical museums from around the world, as part of Frieze Masters, a fair dedicated to art from ancient to modern.
Frieze Masters Talks provides a platform for contemporary artists to discuss the history of art and its role in their work. In their conversations with museum curators, artists respond, on both a personal and intellectual level, to their chosen collections of art. Discussions often extend beyond the artists’ formative influences, to consider the museums’ programming and methods of display, as well as the continuing significance of historical art in contemporary practice.
New to the Frieze Masters Talks programme is ‘Collecting Beyond Contemporary’, Supported by Gucci, new Associate Sponsor of the fair and sponsor of the Talks this year. Chaired by Wim Pijbes, Director of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, this panel will bring together international collectors whose approach to ac- quiring and displaying their holdings looks beyond conventional limitations of chronology, geography and medium.
Frieze Masters Talks is programmed by Jasper Sharp, Adjunct Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
Frieze Masters Talks is hosted in a bespoke auditorium at the fair. Access to the talks is included in the Frieze Masters admission ticket.
