The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, invites qualified academics/professionals to apply for the following faculty position: Associate or Full Professor in Contemporary Southeast Asian Art.
ADM is currently developing a teaching and research focus in Contemporary Southeast Asian Art. As such, applicants from across this expanding field are encouraged to apply, whether from established disciplines such as art history, visual studies, archaeology, and history, or from emerging fields of study such as spatial history, media arts & sciences, heritage science and cultural geography.
The incumbent will teach Contemporary Southeast Asian Art, and introduce new courses in their area(s) of specialization. These might include, for example, art history, art theory and criticism, public art/engaged community projects, installation art, performance art, and/or new media art.
Recently, in 2013, in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board, ADM/NTU established the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA). The successful candidate would be expected to play a central role in the academic, research and exhibition activities of the CCA.
Qualifications
A PhD degree as well as a strong record of university level teaching, research, publication and supervision, is required. Candidates without the PhD but possessing a distinguished record of curatorial experience will also be considered.
The salary and level of appointment offered will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The school

The successful candidate should be able to engage students historically, socially, and conceptually and inspire imaginative, critical and interdisciplinary reflection across theory and practice. ADM provides excellent opportunities for funded research and the successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service at undergraduate and graduate levels. This position will also involve administrative duties and committee participation. The school currently offers six BFA degrees in the areas of Digital Animation, Digital Filmmaking, Photography and Digital Imaging, Interactive Media, Product Design and Visual communication in addition to an MA and PhD by research.
ADM is the first comprehensive art school in Singapore. It provides a studio-based professional education in a comprehensive university setting, providing students with the knowledge and skills to develop, and produce groundbreaking creative artworks and related scholarly activity. ADM also promotes Singapore’s creative culture and identity, and is positioned to play a central role in the transformation of Singapore into a regional centre of art, art history, media and design.
