C&10: Africa and the Global Diaspora – Does Art Connect us all?

An evening with Contemporary And (C&) on the occasion of the platform’s 10th anniversary! May 16th, doors open 6.30pm, program starts at 7pm, 1014 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10028

Join us in New York at 1014 art space on the 16th of May! On the occasion of our 10th anniversary C& and 1014 are hosting an evening of powerful performances and discussions. The evening is facilitated in partnership with the Studio Museum in Harlem.

This event will begin with a poetic reflection on the notion of Africa and the Global Diaspora by artivist and experimental poet Mia Harrison. During the following panel Margaret Morton (Director Creativity and Free Expression, Ford Foundation), Aldeide Delgaldo (curator and founding director WOPHA: Women Photographers International Archive) and Enos Nyamor (art critic, Akademie Schloss Solitude alumna) will engage in a conversation how the vigor and endless connections of Black perspectives are empowering and enabling a change of the narration of contemporary art. Moderated by C&’s co-founder Yvette Mutumba.

The final highlight of the evening is a performance by Steven Baboun. The performance is an offering, an act of adorning and celebration while honoring the work and wonderful powers of the Lwa and Haitian Vodou as a dynamic and vital religion that has influenced the Haitian existence and beyond. It is an act of collective harmony, a thank you to the energies and spirits that consciously or subconsciously guide us.

During the event, C&’s latest print issue with the topic Black Ecologies will be launched and distributed for free. Furthermore, the latest C& Artists’ Edition by Agnes Waruguru will be on display.

Doors open 6:30pm and the program starts at 7:00pm. Register here!
