VIDEONALE.19 – Festival for Video and Time-Based Arts runs from March 31st – May 15th, 2023 with an exhibition at Kunstmuseum Bonn.

What can be submitted?
The VIDEONALE.19 competition is open to all types of experimental time-based artistic works – single and multi-channel video, video installations, performances, sound art and virtual reality. Artists of any nationality and any age can submit up to two works.
Studies at and a degree from an art academy are not required for participation. There is no restriction on duration, content, theme or genre; however, works submitted must have been completed after January 1, 2020.

An administration fee will be charged for each submission (payable in conjunction with the submission process via PayPal):
until June 14th, 2022: 15 euros
after June 15th, 2022: 20 euros

In justified cases, the administration fee can be omitted. For an exemption from the fee as well as limitations for PayPal payments, please contact submissions@videonale.org

Further information on the regulations, our FAQs, as well as contact information can be found here: https://v19.videonale.org/en/call

How will the works be presented and what can the participating artists expect?
An international jury will review all submitted works and decide on participation. All selected works will be presented in a six-week exhibition at Kunstmuseum Bonn and in an accompanying exhibition catalog. The six-week exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive festival program.
All selected artists will receive an exhibition fee and accommodation (barrier-free as needed) during the opening days, as well as the opportunity to participate in festival and networking events. The participation of the artists in the festival program will be as barrier-free as possible. The selected artists are invited to play a significant role in shaping the program on the opening days as well as during the duration of the exhibition.

The Videonale Award by Fluentum, endowed with 5,000 Euros, will be awarded by an independent jury from among all selected works at the opening of VIDEONALE.19.

Who are we?
The Videonale is one of the oldest festivals for video art and time-based art worldwide and has been taking place in Bonn for almost 40 years. We see ourselves as a platform: for artists, whom we want to bring into an intensive exchange with each other, with our audience and with an expert audience; for the audience, whom we want to acquaint with the diverse forms of expression and themes of video art; for an expert audience, who would like to discover new artistic positions at the Videonale and participate in the discussion of current and future issues together with the artists and us.

What is new about the VIDEONALE.19?
We would like to develop our festival program during the opening days and the entire exhibition even more at the interface to the exhibited works. Early on before the opening, we will therefore contact all participating artists and invite them to create formats together with us to engage with their artistic positions.
Participation in the design of the formats is our explicit wish, but not a condition. All activities will be remunerated in addition to the exhibition fee.
