‘We Returned the Burdens That We Bore to Their Rightful Owners, Having Realized That We Never Owed Them a Thing‘ is an exhibition by Isaiah Lopaz in the frame of the festival Republik Repair at Ballhaus Naunynstraße that runs until 19 December 2017

Isaiah Lopaz series of mixed-media works visually and viscerally reject the encoumberance of the Black body to German society at large. ‘We returned the Burdens That We Bore …’ cancels any perceived debt of self-justification, explanation or clarification and seeks to repair the notion of an obligation to defend Black ways of being to xenophobic interrogations. The works celebrate difference and imagine a sovereign Black experience of Berlin.
