Wura-Natasha Ogunji: Your heart is clean

MASS presents Your heart is clean, new works on paper by Wura-Natasha Ogunji. This solo exhibition includes an installation of large-scale drawings with video projections as well as small stitched works. The drawings speak to the layered and ever-changing landscapes of the megacity of Lagos, Nigeria and include images of maps and figures rendered in graphite, ink and thread, as well as videos created with a cell phone. Ogunji introduces text into some of the works as she ruminates on the ethical decisions we make in both the intimate and public spaces of our lives. The suspended drawings create a changing architecture as they move and shift within the gallery space. Opening Reception: Friday, April 25 from 7-10pm evidence of your own eye*: a drawing workshop Thursday, May 1, 7-9pm The elemental act of drawing allows us to mark our presence in the world, providing an important archive of what we see and experience. Wura-Natasha Ogunji will lead participants through a series of drawing exercises which emphasize the experiential and performative aspects of this art form. Spend the evening making marks on paper of all sizes with your favorite drawing implements. Bring the supplies you love to work with; additional materials will be provided. Previous drawing experience not required. *The title references We Must Free Our Imaginations with Kenyan writer Binyavanga Wainaina. www.massgallery.orgwuraogunji.com
