Studio Salon: Black Macho and the Myth of the Superwoman

Studio Salon: Black Macho and the Myth of the Superwoman
In partnership with Verso Books and on the occasion of Lorraine O'Grady: Art Is…, the Studio Museum Harlem presents Studio Salon: Black Macho and the Myth of the Superwoman. Studio Salon is the Museum's literary society that invites visitors to participate in talks and writing workshops that inspire self-expression and critical dialogue. Amanda Hunt, Assistant Curator will begin the program with a tour of the exhibition. Then, Michele Wallace, author of Black Macho, and Jamilah Lemieux, editor at Ebony.com, discuss the book's contributions to black feminism and unpack notions of representation and space in their political manifestations. In her forward, Lemieux writes in praise of the book's roughness and the importance of working unpopular ideas out in the public sphere. We are excited to explore these profoundly important conversations in relation to O'Grady's iconic work! Following the discussion will be a Q & A segment.
