Center of Unfinished Business

O C& Center of Unfinished Business é uma sala de leitura que reúne uma seleção extraordinária, por vezes desconcertante, de obras ligadas, de múltiplas maneiras, à questão do colonialismo. Da colonização alemã à moda congolesa, passando pelos mercados financeiros do século XXI, a coleção atravessa diversos campos relacionados.

Inaugurada em 2017, a sala de leitura viajou e teceu ligações de múltiplas maneiras com instituições desde Cincinnati até Hong Kong, passando por Berlim, Viena, Toulouse, Atenas, Kassel e Nova Iorque.

Ao propiciar encontros e conversas abertas em torno das relações de poder coloniais persistentes, incluindo os desafios de acessibilidade e de consciência histórica, o Centro impulsiona a revisão crítica e convida as instituições artísticas a interrogar os seus próprios pontos cegos. Contém obras da coleção da C&, mas também da instituição anfitriã, e procura sempre incluir uma organização local de base.

O projeto não pretende constituir uma biblioteca coerente e exaustiva sobre o colonialismo, ainda que pudesse sê-lo? O colonialismo é um assunto inacabado: persiste, sob diversas formas.

Connecting Institutions

Launched in 2017, the reading room has travelled to art spaces and museums around the world, connecting with institutions such as:

  • ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), Berlin
  • Museum Ludwig, Cologne
  • Les Abattoirs Musée, Toulouse
  • Para Site, Hong Kong
  • Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati
  • Vera List Center, New York
