Christine Eyene to curate Brussels Biennale for Contemporary Photography

<p class="p4">The Summer of Photography 2018 – Brussels Biennale for Contemporary Photography, will be curated by Christine Eyene.

<p class="p4">In its 7th edition, the biennial will focus on the theme of ‘Revolt’ for which Eyene is currently developing an international exhibition revisiting the 1960s protest movements, photography, and examining the legacy of visual activism in contemporary lens-based practices. The project will build on Eyene’s longstanding interest and research on the representation of sociopolitical issues in visual arts and photography.

<p class="p4">Organised since 2006 by BOZAR, Centre for Fine Arts, the Summer of Photography brings together a host of partners and events across Brussels. It has become a major photography event in the Belgian and international calendar. The 2018 edition is scheduled to launch in June, with a programme of exhibitions and activities held throughout the summer. Previous editions explored the theme of Urban Vibes (2016) and Gender (2014) during which was presented WOMAN – The Feminist Avant-Garde of the 1970s curated by Gabriele Schor, and Eyene’s noted exhibitionWHERE WE’RE AT! <p class="p4">Christine Eyene is a Research Fellow in Contemporary Art at the University of Central Lancashire where she works on Making Histories Visible, an interdisciplinary visual arts research project led by Turner Prize 2017 nominee Lubaina Himid, Professor of Contemporary Art at UCLan. Her next projects includeSounds Like Her (Oct 2017- Jan 2018), New Art Exchange (Nottingham) and UK touring, a sound art exhibition featuring Sonia Boyce and Christine Sun Kim among other artists. She is also theArtistic Director of the International Biennial of Casablanca that will open in October 2018.
