Serge Alain Nitegeka – Solo Show
22 Août 2018
Clôture: 13 octobre 2018
STEVENSON presents a new solo exhibition by Serge Alain Nitegeka, his sixth with the gallery following Ode to Black in 2017.
In previous exhibitions, Nitegeka has sought to give visual form to highly charged emotional and political spaces. He embraces concepts around movement and forced-migration as well as the formal and philosophical connotations of ‘blackness’ through an oeuvre spanning sculpture, painting and installation.
Nitegeka features in Re/discovery and Memory: Sydney Kumalo, Ezrom Legae, Serge Alain Nitegeka and Edoardo Villa, one of the inaugural exhibitions at the Norval Foundation in which the artist has altered the space with an immersive installation in the foundation’s atrium. In Both, and he also destabilised the threshold between the interior and exterior of the Johannesburg gallery through a spatial intervention. This exhibition takes these notions further, as the artist builds on the poetics of displacement.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 30 August, 6 – 8pm.
